Explore the stunning Þórsmörk Valley, also known as the Valley of Thor, on this private adventure tour. Nestled between three glaciers—Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull, and Tindfjallajökull—Þórsmörk is one of Iceland’s most breathtaking nature reserves. With dramatic mountain ridges, glacier views, green valleys, and forests of moss and birch, it’s a dream destination for anyone who loves nature, photography, or hiking.
To reach this hidden gem, we’ll travel in a powerful Super Jeep built for Iceland’s rugged terrain. These special vehicles are designed to cross deep rivers and rough roads safely, making the ride part of the fun. Sit back and enjoy the thrilling drive through wild landscapes as we take you far off the beaten path into one of Iceland’s most beautiful and remote areas.
Your day begins with a pick-up in Reykjavík in a comfortable Super Jeep. We’ll head out of the city and drive along the south coast, passing farmlands and mountains on the way.
Seljalandsfoss – Walk Behind the Waterfall
Our first stop is Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. You can walk behind it and see the water fall from a whole new angle. It’s a great place for photos!
Gígjökull – Glacier and Volcano Area
Next, we visit Gígjökull, a glacier that flows from the volcano Eyjafjallajökull. We drive close to the glacier over rough ground and learn how the 2010 eruption changed the landscape.
Básar – Green Valley with Birch Trees
We travel deeper into Þórsmörk and stop at Básar, a peaceful place filled with small trees, rivers, and quiet beauty. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy nature and take a short walk.
Valahnúkur – Easy Hike with a Big View
For those who want to hike, we offer an easy hike up Valahnúkur mountain. It takes about 90 minutes round trip. At the top, you’ll see amazing views of rivers, valleys, and glaciers.
Secret Spot – Hidden Gem of Þórsmörk
Before heading back, your guide will take you to a special place they personally love in Þórsmörk. It’s usually quiet, beautiful, and not on the usual tourist route.
Drive Back to Reykjavík
After a day full of nature and fresh air, we head back to Reykjavík. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive through the wild landscape.
What kind of vehicle is used for the tour?
We use specially modified Super Jeeps, designed for Iceland’s rough terrain. These large 4x4 vehicles have oversized tires and high ground clearance, making them ideal for crossing rivers and driving off-road safely and comfortably.
Will I get wet at Seljalandsfoss?
Possibly! Since you can walk behind the waterfall, there is often spray, especially on windy days. It is highly recommended that you bring a waterproof jacket and proper outdoor clothing.
How long is the tour?
The tour lasts approximately 10–11 hours. This includes pick-up and drop-off in Reykjavík, driving time, sightseeing stops, and the optional hike.
Where is the pick-up point?
We pick you up from your hotel or a designated bus stop in Reykjavík. When booking, you’ll choose the bus stop closest to your accommodation. Please be ready at the agreed time
