Grandagarður, or the Grandi District, is a lively area in Reykjavík, Iceland. It used to be a busy fishing spot but has now become a popular neighborhood full of interesting places to visit. It’s located near the Old Harbour and is only a short walk from the city center. Grandi combines its fishing history with modern attractions. You can visit the Marshall House, which is an art gallery that shows work by Icelandic and international artists. Another favorite is the Whales of Iceland museum, where you can see life-sized models of whales and learn about these amazing animals. There’s also Grandi Mathöll, a food hall where you can try different kinds of Icelandic and international food. The waterfront in Grandi is especially beautiful, with colorful fishing boats and views of Mount Esja in the distance. Walking along the harbor, you get a sense of the area’s past while enjoying its modern vibe.

Grandi’s proximity to the Old Harbour makes it a good spot for birdwatching. You might see Arctic terns, puffins, and other seabirds, especially during the summer months. Occasionally, whale-watching tours depart nearby.
Grandi is home to several boutique shops selling Icelandic-designed goods, including handmade jewelry, sustainable clothing, and local art. The area is ideal for finding unique souvenirs and gifts.
Grandi is easily accessible by foot from downtown Reykjavík. You can also take a short bus ride or rent a bike to enjoy the scenic route along the harbor.
Grandi can be enjoyed year-round, but summer offers longer daylight hours, making it perfect for strolling along the waterfront and enjoying outdoor events. Winter adds a cozy atmosphere with the chance to see the Northern Lights nearby.
